I recently spoke with Mark Anderson via ooVoo video interview regarding the Obama plans for Health IT, and he had some interesting things to say about data entry collaboration.

Thanks Robert.  It is very fasicinating to hear from him that data entry is a bottleneck in EMR.  I addressed the problem using PalmPilot product 3 years ago.  THe product uses customized templates which can be pulled out.  The physician clicks the relevant items, saves and transfer to the database.  Even for documenting procedures,  the templates can be used without transciptions.   True that data entry problems will remain as a bottlenect for foreseeable future.

Then he talks about putting seven years worth of data.  I think he trivializes the business side and operational issues, not to mention the price physicians would pay.  Remember,  physicians salaries are cut ( while insurance companies are getting vacation packages),  reimbursements are squeezed.  But I agree that it is just a suggestion and probably can be realized in future.

I also agree that data entry should be distributed amongst patients and front desk too without adding cost to the EMR.

Thank you Marc and Robert.
