Ban on open displays of tobacco products likely to come into effect in April after supreme court throws out firm's case Shops in Scotland will be banned from openly displaying cigarettes after a legal challenge by one of Britain's largest tobacco firms was thrown out by the supreme court. A five-strong panel of judges on the UK court unanimously rejected an appeal by Imperial Tobacco against a new law in Scotland which will ban the display of cigarettes and other tobacco products, and the use of cigarette vending machines, in shops and supermarkets.
