Anyone have any experience with this check in company?
http://www.phreesia.com/
It is free.
It's been a couple of months but basically it is free because they advertise drugs to your patients. Data intake, does not integrate with an existing EMR, at least when I looked into it, but they were working on that. You can print the patient demographics and any data accrued.

I think it is a better marketing company than it is a technology company! No HL7 interface. C'mon. But their literature says "Compatible with EMRs." Yes, because they share no information with EMRs. Catepillar tractors are compatible with automobiles too.....whatever that means.

That means, it can't interface and therefore, won't screw up your existing EMR, hence compatible!
Good answer. I tend to think the patient data entry is secondary to it being a marketing tool for the drug companies. Advertising is really on such a huge move, you are going to see it everywhere soon and in short time, actually become sick of it. It is getting the point where we eventually will have to pay to avoid it, as there is some of that right now, but anything free anymore is bound to be paid for by some type of advertising.
When EMRs graduate up to SaaS, Software of a Service, then items like this might have some additional value, but again will still be full of advertising.

All,
We've put together a quick video of what the checkin process looks like. Please feel free to visit http://www.happe-mds.com/ProductsServices/SelfCheckinKiosk/tabid/85/Default.aspx and click on the demo button. It is a 3 minute flash file.
I'd be interested in your feedback on this. I hope it shows its simplicity in functioning as a "Check In Helper" as Dr. M coined it.
Cheers.
Chuck.
I am a EHR/PM Project Manager and I have worked with several Kiosk/Patient Portals. If you are looking for a Kiosk that will perform the following the best system I have worked with is Bond Clinician. It will allow you to utilize any combination of the below:
Kiosk:
1. Check In
2. Update/Add New Demographics
3. Update/Add New Medications and Allergies
4. Update/Add New PMHx, PSHx, SHx, FHx
Portal:
1. All of the above plus:
2. Complete an HPI and ROS
3. Allow online Bill Pay
4. Request Medication Refills
5. Request an appointment
6. Allow a patient to view Lab/Diagnostic Reports
7. Allow a outside referring physician to recieve referral reports
8. Request Referrels From Internal Physicians to external physicians
I recommend Bond Clinician for the following Practice Types:
1. Family Practice/General Medicine
2. OB GYN
3. Other Small Specialty Practices that have one location and 10 or less Providers.
I DO NOT reccomend this EMR however, for a practice utilizing multiple locations, Greater than 10 Physicians/Providers or any clinic which needs to incorperate an out patient Surgical Center or is otherwise in need of medication functionalities outside of ordering precriptions and refills. (Inpatient Pharmacy items like Anesthesia, IV Drips etc.)

I'll will start another post on this device as soon as I understand the full scope of it. If it makes sense, I'll look at integrating it into e-MDs. If you have any information that can assist me, please feel free to pass it along via email. You are the third person to ask about this recently, so it appears the "free" word is catching everyone's attention. Chuc.

There is no such thing as free.....I believe they Data Mine. Maybe it does not cost YOU anything...but somewhere, somehow money is changing hands either directly or indirectly for this service. The data you or your patient exchange is being used as a bartering tool down the line probably just like the grocery store "swipe card and get discounts" was ans is still being used to track market trends. Proceed with caution with anything "free".
How about:
How's that?

We’re happy to join this thread, albeit a bit late! Phreesia has never and will never sell, rent or trade protected patient health information. We are 100% free to physicians since we are sponsor-supported by pharmaceutical companies. After a patient completes his / her check-in interview, an advertisement will appear that corresponds with the patient’s answers. The patient also has the option to read non-sponsored health education related to their complaints.
In response to the questions regarding capture of information, Phreesia automatically prints a report as soon as a patient completes an interview. Simultaneously, Phreesia automatically downloads an electronic PDF of the patient interview to the practice’s computer. Many of the current physicians with an EMR electronically attach the PDF to their EMR. Phreesia also has the ability to export the patient interview in CCR and HL7 formats. We are integrating with several EMRs that have the capability to import CCR and HL7 files.
From a patient perspective, 90% of patients rate Phreesia as very good or excellent in replacing outdated paper forms, being easy to use, being easy to read and being easy to understand. This is a great testament to Phreesia’s ability to improve the patient experience at physician offices.
In addition, since our PhreesiaPads are wireless and portable, patients are able to sit down in the waiting room to enter their information. The PhreesiaPads are roughly the size of an Etch-A-Sketch. No installation of wires are needed. This avoids unnecessary standing, which may be difficult for elderly patients while completing check-in. There was a question about having to wait for a kiosk. We start a practice with two PhreesiaPads and based on patient utilization, we send out additional PhreesiaPads at no additional cost to ensure that there is no disruption to a practice’s workflow.
Some of the benefits of Phreesia:
· Provides legible, comprehensive documentation: interviews contain branching logic that allows physicians the ability to have tailored interviews for individual patients
· Captures electronic signatures: Phreesia can input the practice’s HIPAA privacy policy and patient consent forms into the patient interview, which allows the practice to identify patients who need to sign updated forms
· Returning patients: patients receive a shortened interview and re-verify / update information on their return visit
· Easy-to-use interface
A shortened demo can be seen here: http://www.phreesia.com/phreesia_demo.asp. If you would like to see a live demo, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will show you an interview specific to your area of specialty. Thanks!

I have an EMR and would like to add a simple check in Kiosk but would like to get a suggestion about the right type of display to use. I understand there are three technologies (resistive, capacitive and acoustic) for knowing where the person touched it. I'm not expecting my EMR vendor to add a kiosk anytime soon but would appreciate any advive you can offer for a do it yourself type office. We have some friend that like to tinker but probably need a heads up on dos and don'ts before we order some hardware to play with. My guess is they will do it with a Visual Basic program and an ODBC interface. Thanks
Our company wanted to select one Patient Portal company to initially pilot with our customers. After reviewing the pricing, functionality, technology and demos of over a dozen, we selected No More Clipboard. They have HL7 interface capability and will allow your patients to use the system in your office (kiosk) or from home over the Internet.
