Two weeks ago I signed up with Transworld / GREEN FLAG Recovery.
I learned about it from the AthenaHealth thread. That practice management system searched out the best soft medical collections firm to use. Each state has a representative and I scheduled an onsite demonstration of the product. I was sold.
Greenflag sent letters out in my behalf last week. For the last two days, patients have been calling my office to pay their owed amounts. These same patients have been ignoring statements I've sent to them, in some cases, back 2 years ago. There is something about patients receiving a bill from a third party that gets them to act. If they don't pay in 10 days, another letter is sent, and so forth. After so much time, I have the final choice to involve lawyers for full collections. Most pay due to the initial warning letters.
I bought the package that costs $10.50 per client. Bought 500 credits to last me 2 years. I pass that cost down to the client plus an additional $15. To initiate a letter, my MA just enters the info on a website that keeps track of what is occuring on each account. Very simple and straight forward. Those who use AthenHealth, their PMS is fully integrated with GreenFlag so there is no need for double entry.

I am also setup to send insurance companies to collections if they have not paid by day 61. They are so use to receiving the regular billing forms, that a 3rd party collection letter is a new beast for them to deal with. Instead of my office calling and waiting on hold, the insurance companies call my office to get things straightened out. Quite novel !
Insurance aging. Everyone knows what a struggle it is for the billers to call an insurance company and sit there on hold, or asked to "leave a message" and they never call back.
Today I've been sending a multitude of insurance companies to collections for unpaid claims they have either ignored or just sitting there with them doing nothing about and not calling back my office to resolve. Thank you GreenFlag. All other practices who use GreenFlag are doing the same. What are other people doing when the insurance company doesn't return calls or get claims processed timely? Probably just sit there and watch it age some more. I'm done doing that. Phone calls and letters have not worked. Let's see what they do with the collection letters.
"Bought 500 credits to last me 2 years. "
Finally, another company using the Medtuity turnstile pricing model! I'll be cool when every physician understands this pricing model.
I just opened my mail. It was full of patient payments! Some of these patients have ignored my statements for 2 years.
They are not ignoring GreenFlag statements sent to them !
Patient payments continue to stream in!
I get a chuckle at some of the patient calls coming in.
"Why did you send me to collections?"
reply: Because if bills are not paid in a timely maner, the system automatically sends out the collection notice.
"Why didn't you just send me a bill ?"
reply: We did. We sent several over the last few months. We have the dates we sent them. They claim they never received them.
My medical assistant even sent her father to collections. He called and asked the same questions above. He said that he recieved our letters/statements but just threw them away because he didn't want to open anything from a doctors office. He responded to the GreenFlag letters with a phone call and a following check in the mail.
The flip side, if you are in a small town this can come back to bite you as those grocery/dinner/neighborhood picnic/party conversations can be very informative.
regards,
Brendon
They should be embarrased if they went around telling people they didn't pay their bills. They are the one responsible for being sent collection letters, not the doctor. It also sends a message that payment is expected if you go to the doctor. Just like payment is expected when you go grocery shopping or to the local town diner.
The majority of responses I have received are of embarrasement for ignoring the statements I sent them.

Brendon,
Our demand notices are diplomatic. We do not use harsh tactics that alienate your patients.
The Girl Scouts here in Houston utilize our service to recover bad checks for cookie sales.....(can you believe it?)
The point is .....if The Girl Scouts are confortable with our demand notices....then you probably will be also...

What has happened since sending insurance companies to collections for unpaid claims after 60 days?
I'm getting checks in the mail and a note saying they paid me interest.
My local GreenFlag/Transworld Rep visits my office occasionally to check up on my use of the services.
