America behind the times (yet, again)

My Lord, what is wrong with American Healthcare ?

They (Vasectomies) are also strikingly little-used. About 500,000 American men have the operation each year. More than twice as many women undergo tubal ligation for permanent contraception, even though that operation costs three to four times as much, requires general anesthesia and an abdominal incision, and carries a small but real risk of serious complications.

I wonder how many American women die each year because they are being offered tubal ligations and suffer major complications from the major surgery ?

Whatever the reasons in the United States, the situation is not the same among men everywhere. By the time they reach their 50s, roughly half of men in New Zealand have undergone vasectomies, according to Dr. Sabanegh, compared with fewer than one in six in the United States. In Canada, vasectomies outnumber tubal ligations.

It surely isn't 50/50 in Canada now.  I've arranged probably 100 vasectomies and I've never send someone for a tubal.  The only tubals I've heard about is a woman going for a C/S after baby #2 and the Gynecologist asking .. want me to do your tubes while I am in there ?

What kind of caveman husband would let his wife go for a tubal and not get the snip ?

I am sure there is a financial incentive at play here in the US.  I am guessing the Gynes get big bucks for tubals and it is a money maker for the hospitals.

Reason #24601 to "completely redo" American "Health"Care.

    disgusting.

Are you serious? Americans are extremely potent. I can't have those critters backing up into my system, causing prostatic and (due to quantity) neurological symptoms! Besides, my boys are gold in a sperm bank. Surprise Wink

    heh.

Good point.  The problem might be the fragile American male ego.

A man goes to his family doc to get sterilized.

His wife does not want tubal ligation.

He says: "Doc, I want two ball ligation".

So let me get this straight.

U.S. men are wimps about getting a vasectomy so women have to get their tubes tied.....and that's yet another reason why healthcare in the US must be torn down and rebuilt?

    Classic!

It's not really wimpy US men.  No.

Fact: An excess of women are dying/severe morbidity from tubal ligations in world's most expensive healthcare system.

It would be very interesting to figure out why the vasectomy rate is low and the tubal rate is high.

The causes are multifactorial, I'm sure.

One reason I suspect is the private insurance system must  be skewing women into more tubals.

I am going to research this one.

    >>> "torn down and rebuilt"

I threw that in for you, for purely entertainment purposes.
