Boy, I wish I had read this 2 weeks ago. I spent a great deal of time last week-end installing the DNS preferred version 10 only to find it would not work with eMD. Have already packed it up to send back.
Where did you find the "hack" you describe and how do you run/install it?
One of the reasons I wanted to try 10 was of course the speed but I am also having problems with even 9.5 recognizing the dictation box in eMD. I usually have to go an additional step and open the Dragon "dictation box" as well. I was not having that problem in version 8. Anyone with any ideas re that, would love to hear.
Dragon has an upgrade from preferred to Medical 10 for $699. I am trying to figure if it is worthwhile to pursue.

I would appreciate it if any doctors who either purchased Dragon 10 Preferred only discover that it was EMR blocked, or doctors who would have bought Preferred but were forced to purchase Medical because of the blocking would call me at (806) 677-2022.
This is my office extension and does not go through a switchboard. You can call it night or day and leave a message. (I am almost never sitting at my desk....)
Thanks!

It should be simple to write a program where you can place your mouse in a window and change the window's title. So change it from eMD to "My EMR". Should solve it...then you're not hacking your copy of DNS.

Actually not so easy.
In eCW, there are literally hundreds of windows. Nuance has done a good job on us.
It looks at the name of the process running as well.
The program keeps turning itself off.

A firm has tentatively accepted the case, and is finishing the conflict checking.
Anyone who has an interest in participating, please call and leave a message on my voice mail. I will get back to you.
Amazingly, I got the first call about 1 hour after my post.
My number is (806) 677-2022. Call day or night. There is about a 0.5% chance of me answering it live, so please leave a message, including your phone number so I can call you back.
I particularly need other people in Texas, but anyone else in the US is welcome to talk to me.
I posted this up at the AC blog site (might get ya a few thousand physicians, s.a. our Joseph):
-------------------------------------------------- Guys:Over the past year we'll all read about how Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 has been rigged by its maker, Nuance, to turn itself off if it notices the use DNS Standard/Preferred with any one of several of the more well-known EMRs, s.a. AC. The idea is to pick physician pockets deeper by forcing physicians to purchase their more expensive offering, DNS Medical. If you have either purchased Dragon 10 Preferred only discover that it was EMR blocked, or if you would have bought Standard/Preferred but were forced to purchase Medical because of the blocking would call Dr. Reddy Biggs at (806) 677-2022. It should be simple to write a program where you can place your mouse in a window and change the window's title. So change it from eMD to "My EMR". Should solve it...then you're not hacking your copy of DNS.There is already such an application and it is called Title Bar Changer (a $15 shareware program). Combining Title Bar Changer and/or changing the name of the EMR executable was known to be go somewhat effective with some EMR applications when using DNS 10.0 but we believe that the Nuance programmers added additional code to Ver. 10.1 to prevent these 2 workarounds which was widely publicized on several forums, including this one, over a year ago.We additionally added workaround commands to KnowBrainer that essentially substituted notepad for dictation and cut and pasted that dictation into any EMR application (our version of the Dictation Box on steroids). Unfortunately, DNS also knows when you are attempting to verbally paste into most of the major EMR applications and not only prevents the command from working but additionally shuts off the microphone. The previous link includes an updated list of EMR applications that will not work with DNS Preferred or Legal 10.For what it's worth, we side with the physicians on this issue and didn't appreciate Nuance limiting the functionality of our command software. But there is another angle that may carry additional weight in initiating some changes.Imagine for a moment, that you are a quadriplegic working alone on your computer. You receive an e-mail message advertising a new liquid soap product with the word “SOAP” in the subject line. As soon as you attempt to respond or even delete this message, the NaturallySpeaking microphone will be turned off because NaturallySpeaking sees the word “SOAP” in the Window name and immediately concludes that you're using S.O.A.P. Notes. If you're a quad, turning the microphone back on is no simple feat. When we were using Pro 10 on the eClinicalWorks forum, our microphone automatically turned off because NaturallySpeaking saw ECW in the browser. The reason why we're mentioning this is because we believe that you have more than one line of attack. We realize that Nuance did not intentionally plan on this unfortunate side effect but it exists nevertheless.

Yeah, Nuance is disabling doctors and now the "Disabled."
What's next, erase your hard drive if you start Windows Speech Recognition?

Al,
Thanks for the support! I appreciate that.
I am sure that there are many other EMR forums for specific vendors out there that I am unaware of.
If anyone wants to repost my contact information, as Al has done in Amazing Charts, feel free to do so. We will have a better case if we can demonstrate a number of doctors (and others) who are adversely affected by the EMR blocking in Professional, Preferred, and Standard versions of DNS 10.
Thanks again,
