Does borg chat allow for offline messaging. In other words if the person you are messaging has the computer off will it save the message for them when the comnpter gets turned back on.

Well no. I believe if the person is not there, then you should email them :). If you like this feature, you should go with one of the Instant Messengers. Borg Chat is more of a intranet messenger. They are coming up with a client-server version so I would expect features like this in the future.

My latest BorgChat feature is changing the beeps based on different events. Urgent messages have a longer beep, less urgent messages have a quieter beep. When someone sends me a file it plays an "Incoming File".wav. Big Smile [:D]

OK. I still love borgchat.

Love. So does my secretary.
However.

It's been missing one thing for me, which is pretty key - voice messaging.

Another thing I like from Quick Notes Pro was the Yellow Sticky Message sending. Although, you could always just review your ToDos in the borgchat chat windows.

Is there a program that "has it all" ?

Yes there is. (well pretty darn close)

LAN Chat Enterprise 3.24 !

To me it is very similar to BorgChat, without the "juvenile" smilies, and with voice messaging and and stickies !

It has another cool feature: folder monitoring. The program will alert you if there was a change in the folder you want monitored.

Another great feature, albeit deadly, is the ability to remotely run commands on other computers. (List directories, Grab a remote screen, RUN DOS COMMANDS). Run DOS Commands - scary stuff. Better keep the "Commander" password real secret.

Screenshot of the directory listing I retrieved from a remote computer

I highly suggest people demo this program.

It even will forward your messages to your Email if you are out.

It also monitors your email and messages you that you have a new message.

There is a first for everything. Big Smile [:D] Thanks Graham.

I was planning on giving it but their website was so bad, I was looking for a better source. Not to mention, my wife said, if I wasn't downstairs in 2 minutes, I'd be sleeping at the office.[:I]

Interesting. I've been using the free Tonic for years but will check out the free trial of Messenger.

mrbig:
Can anyone recommend a messaging system that functions like "instant messenger" or similar which work outside of the EMR. Many people in our office will use the computer for diferent functions but will be not using an EMR.

Try Google Talk within Google Apps.

It's free and effective. We use it internally here.
