Good morning everybody!

I've just been hired as the PA to a psychiatrist in the wonderful state of Missouri. One of my first assignments is to figure out how to transfer her Alteer database over to the new program of choice, SOAPware.

I have a lot of research to do and am more than willing to get my hands dirty, as it were =P. In the meantime, does anyone have any suggestions as to where I should start searching?

Has anyone transfered files from Alteer to SOAPware before? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I've seen a lot of really helpful people on this board in my time reading and it appears to be one of the most helpful by far of any I've found. Can't wait to hear from you guys!

Until then,

-Jonathan

Jonathan,

I'd start here:

http://www.emrupdate.com/Forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1305&SearchTerms=alteer

The key will be whether the office is on Local Server model or Central Server model (Most are on Central). If you are on Local, your entire database is located on the local server, and should be easily transferrable. If you are on a Central Server model, its a whole different ball of wax.

What exactly are you wanting to move over? Everything (As in chart, demographics, billing history complete, etc)? Or just patient demographics, just charts, etc.

RE: Transferring records to SOAPware from Alteer.

1) Soapware has a module for data exchange mapping, called "exchange."

2) I too would like to know how the Alteer data is packaged, as I've been asked to write on data conversion for the AAFP's Center for Health Information Technology (CHiT) at AAFP's open website.

3) You may want to contact tech support at docs.com as they may be willing to assist OR point you in the right direction on such a data conversion, ie, they may have other clients who've done the same conversion.

Feel free to use my name, it may help at SOAPware.
NO, I don't get commission or anything, just like to support GOOD software!!

Hey NITS!

Because of the excessive charges and general lack of support, the firm I'm representing has decided to move everything over to SOAPware. All the information is located on the Alteer Central Server at this time, so the challenge is in figuring out how to move it over.

I'm going to check out the links you recommended and do some research and probably give the folks at docs.com a call.

Thankyou all in advance for your help, its much appreciated. I'll be updating you all soon, bye for now!

Hey guys!

After contacting the tech support guys at SOAPWare and doing some more research, it seems that there is no easy way to transfer the databases over.

I guess we're going to our backup plan, manually copying the data over using the good 'ole copy/paste method.

Any suggestions on how that could be done better or any thoughts on getting the database transfer?

I'll let you guys know how things go. With over 800+ clients, this isn't gonna be fun =P.

Jonathan,

The easiest and most logical way to copy information over is to simply fax from Alteer to your new system. Much easier to fax a chart than it is to copy/paste.

Also, if you setup a Print to PDF print driver, you could "Print" the entire charts to PDF, then import those into Soapware.

Either of those are better options than copy/paste.

Good luck.

Nick

p.s. I suspect Alteer would give you a copy of the database and chart documents, but you'd have to pay a few grand atleast.

We'll the current quote is $10k.

Questions:

1 - I can't find the option in the system to create a CCD/CCR document. This is a stage one requirement. Can someone point me to where this is in the system? This would give us the discrete data for Meds, allergies, problems, etc. for each patient.

2 - Are there any reports in the system for things like patient demographics and support files. Do these reports exist?

3 - From what I read above, we should just fax over the documents out of the chart and into the new chart. Has this worked for others?

4 - There is supposed to be 2 weeks of cached data on the local system but the local SQL table seems to be empty. Any ideas?
