At the end of the day, if the end users (Physicians) reject it, it will not matter what the Government does.
alborg: President Obama, like Hillary Clinton, will most likely try to shape a single-payer healthcare system that will eventually pad the pockets of those that have supported him in the past, if not himself too. The fact that Tullman's company gave him $144000.00 in the 2 years prior to his election, essentially resulting in Obama picking him as his personal HIT advisor is just the tip of the iceburg. As Rush Limbaugh said recently- "... if his agenda is [wrong], then I want him to fail!"

Al,
I think it's to soon to make assumptions regarding what Obama's plans are.
If his agenada is wrong, than I want to make him understand that it IS wrong (not fail). Seems more productive this way. Doesn't it?
I bet a letter like that going to the white house brand new website will not be ignored....

Now we are quoting Rush, boy we really have digressed.

wrong - the plans are laid out in Tom Daschle's book:

You want to revisit that statement, in view of today's news?
So, Daschle hasn't paid $100K+ in taxes ... aren't all politicians corrupt?

I'm so happy that Daschle was forced to resign. He was one of the major HIMSS representatives on Obama's team. From the HIIMSS website:
"HIMSS has arranged for members to personally add their support for Senator Tom Daschle to be confirmed as the next Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). "
In fact, he was paid off by HIMSS members, including speaking fees from Misys Healthcare Systems ($12,000) and GE Healthcare ($12,000) on 8/2008. Quote from article "Tax Cheat Daschle Favors Federal Reserve for Health":
"GE Healthcare, one of several healthcare companies that paid Daschle tens of thousands of dollars to speak to their organizations, stands to profit if Daschle is confirmed and pursues Obama's plan for more federal involvement in the health care field. Indeed, a part of the Obama plan, which is a specialty of GE Healthcare, is the electronic processing of medical records."
Another quote from the recent media:
"While the tax cheating is getting some attention from the media, the $220,000 in speaking fees that Daschle collected from special interests in the health care field seems to be getting more coverage because of the fact, as noted by Kenneth P. Vogel of Politico.com, that many of these firms “stand to gain or lose millions of dollars from the work he would do once confirmed as secretary of Health and Human Services.” A front-page headline in the Washington Post, “Health Sector Enriched Daschle,” captures the obvious conflict of interest problem for the nominee. One of those firms is GE Healthcare, but chances are you won’t hear much about it from GE’s media properties..."
About Dashle's book which includes HIT references:
"Daschle’s book, “Critical: What We Can Do About the Health Care Crisis,” published in early 2008, notes that “we are years, if not decades, behind European nations in harnessing health care information technology’s potential.” It calls for removing much health care policy-making from the political arena but states that at the same time the executive branch of the federal government should promote creation of an IT infrastructure for health information."
So today was a great day- a powerful HIMSS-financially tied Obama pick has been forced to resign. All I HOPE (note my avatar) is that the process continues and that the day when unfunded-mandated-government-HIT will finally end.
Next, Tullman, Allscripts CEO who lobbied/paid his way to being Obama's HIT advisor should also come under heavy scrutiny.

One thing about Obama is he is generally not controlled by power groups, his fund raising was "grass roots." But now he is vulnerable, because all those one and dollar "aunt bessie's" can not really give him advice - so a lot of tier two players like Tullman are getting in there. And this means Obama is going to look increasingly bad. Daschle should have been vetted better but he wasn't so we have Obama looking weak - and it will get worse. It is a good thing he was because we would have got someone who was Daschle's puppet without question - we still might!
Did you know 10 out of 10 top contributors to the Bush campaigns were WALL street connected - either lawyers, bankers or traders! Lest the Democrats think they are better Clinton was 8 out of 10 and 3 out of the top 5 for Gore!!
You think GE et al are going to let a little thing like a poitical mis-step by Daschle make them throw away millions. Guess again - the battle isn't over, it has just begun, and Obama is either going to give up or be tricked or go along to save his political skin.
But who knows may he will get up to speed and buck the establishment.
New addition to the list of political contributions by Allscripts/Misys:
Mr. Tullman was recently interviewed; check out the thread on that discussion- http://www.nytimes.com/2005/03/09/technology/09compute.html?ei=5089&en=402b792e748d99a2&ex=1268110800&adxnnl=1&partner=rssyahoo&adxnnlx=1150474153-xVix1BcYkvTKJpuLyHStrQ
I can't believe that nobody cared enough to back up this article by sending in letters-to-the-editor. Well, I did... they initially mashed it up into one paragraph that was difficult to read-
http://medicaleconomics.modernmedicine.com/memag/Medical+Economics/HIT-experts-warn-about-EHR-investment-in-open-lett/ArticleStandard/Article/detail/577410?contextCategoryId=44149.
They then redid the editing and converted my comments into an article-

Get active on this, folks, otherwise this steamroller will change things forever...
I just put a comment up on the Modern Medicine site.
You're right.

You are right Al. I've been posting out there on THCB as best I can, but I still think that a nice open letter signed by the doctors and others that post here would be much more powerful than posting here and there on various blogs and publications that are most likely not read by those in power. You should draft one of those letters and address it to the President. Why not?
I guess I could try that at Sermo- a few open letters have generated about 12000 signatures!
