I was interested in the cheapest EMR option out there that might be CCHIT certified and MTBC came up on my radar. Right now I use medscribbler lite for an EMR and us LeonardoMD for PM with my office manager doing the billing using Leonardo... and Navicure for clearinghouse. ENS was cheaper but didn't try very hard.
MTBC EMR is not free. That is a lie. It is "free" if you subscribe to their billing service which takes 4% (or 5% for the premium service.) I think they outsource some of the labor to India despite being based in New Jersey. The EMR is not ASP. I would need to get a server, bu the hardware requirements are gentle. The PM is web-based. I used to outsource billing to a local company and for 8%, they did not try very hard with rejected claims. Billing+PM+EMR for 4% or 5% seems too good to be true. Does anyone have personal experience with MTBC as a billing company? Do they pursue denied claims? If a patient calls them with billing questions, does the human answering speak intelligible English? Or will I be forced into a strictly Hindi-English bilingual demographic?
Seems a premature step since CCHIT is reinventing its certification process .... to accommodate ARRA, and it's likely there will be more than one certifying agency.

Petermd,
As you correctly noted, MTBC's EMR is provided to our clients as a part of the medical billing service. We believe that this model represents a great alternative to the costly upfront fees for training, licensing, support and updates demanded by our competitors. And as you noted, EMR, PM, and billing at 5% does sound too good to be true--you'll need to speak to our clients to find out that it is true, and its available to your practice too.
At the 5% billing rate there are no additional fees or expenses for our clients. You are right again that our EMR is a client/server application with "gentle" hardware requirements. Nicely put!
Finally, as to your billing questions, we do follow-up diligently and relentlessly on rejections and denials. But don't take our word for it, speak to our clients and hear what they have to say. We gladly provide testimonials to healthcare practices interested in learning more about our service. Visit MTBC.com to learn more or call us at 866.266.6822.
BTW, our Patient Help Desk speaks fluent English :)

All Inclusive 5% Medical Billing:
i've got billing done at 3.5% with EMR before and never had language issues. although this was not MTBC.
If you are still in search of CCHIT certified EMR , i would suggest Springcharts EMR Software. SpringCharts Version 9 meets CCHIT ambulatory electronic health record (EHR) criteria for 2006. Ambulatory EHRs are designed for physician offices and clinics where most Americans get their healthcare.
