While there are a large number of EHR systems such systems often cost $32,000 per physician or upwards. Currently small physician practices provide nearly 75% of ambulatory care in the USA. Many of these small medical practices lack sufficient resources to implement EHRs or improve their quality of care. The Veterans Health Administration's open-source electronic health record system VistA is a fully integrated, enterprise-wide healthcare information system that has been developed and used for the past 20 years by the Veterans Health Administration, the largest, centrally directed, healthcare system in the U.S. VistA has been deployed in about 1,500 care sites and its open-source derivative OpenVistA, whose source code is freely available could be an effective and low-cost option small medical practices. OpenVistA can be customized for speciality clinics and medical centers. NewCreationIT will work with single physicians or small medical practices to customize and deploy OpenVistA for their medical practice at very low costs. Medical billing software components, claims processing, enhanced EMR, ePrescription, Regulatory Reporting to demonstrate meaningful use and CCHIT certification (site-level certification) and other additional features can be added without restrictions to OpenVistA. Since the software is free, practices will have to only pay for the services involved in deployment, customization, certification and support. NewCreationIT will also work with solo/small practies to capture existing financial incentives already available such as: (a)the Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) where you can earn an incentive payment of 2.0 percent of total allowed charges for Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) and (b)incentive program for eligible professionals who are successful electronic prescriber's (e-Prescribers) as defined by MIPPA (c)"meaningful use" in the ARRA federal health IT incentive programs and the stimulus package - beginning in 2011, physicians who demonstrate "meaningful use" of electronic health records (EHR) could qualify for up to $44,000 in Medicare incentive payments. In 2015, the government will enact penalties for health care providers who have failed to demonstrate meaningful use. Will be happy to give you a free demo of this product. If anyone wants to try out Openvista, Alex Caldwell has created a VM with it installed.

You'll need Mokafive player, or Vmware server etc installed to run the virtual machine.
