Will the use of these devices be covered by the current ultrasound CPT codes? Will this service be reimbursable?  Will it need preauthorization?

There are a lot of cool things but that was astute, and I agree who pays for it. An example is our DXA machine that we may never get our ROI. For a 60K machine with networked capability, reimbursed now down to $50. ISCD membership and recertification is likewise expensive. Echos and Carotid will likely drop in reimbursement outside of the hospital by 20 to 45%. Good thing I did not purchased their latest GE machine.

I realize that this is an EMR forum, but I can't resist suggesting that Rogerven and Redybiggs add their office address, phone,  or web site  to their signature.

You guys are great from an IT and clinical aspect!

That's a compliment, by the way. Smile

Did you not see mine on my signature Chris? Thanks anyways. I was too busy to load the software and may not find it practical. Regardless I ordered and got a great deal from our vendor we normally ordered our equipments, $50 less than the best price on the internet and free shipping.

I had 2 cases I never heard a murmur and a bruit so will see how it goes. The 3 different pitches are truly distinct, definitely in stereo. Hands down the best scope. I could not wait to do my examinations and listen that my patients thought I was silly. What a great feeling to revive since med school. Patients feel the enthusiasm. The scope is like a normal scope and does not catch attention like the Welch Allyn which looks like a probe.

Extremely highly recommended.

Thanks for the thumbs up.

In the old days I had my email address in my sigs, but quickly realized that my spam increased exponentially.  I do have a tinyurl link to my group practice web page already listed,  http://tinyurl.com/reddybiggs .

I'd encourage everyone to have a link. I think that the anonymous postings are not nearly as credible as those where a real person is behind them.

We'll see how the electronics shake out. GE has not had the best ultrasound equipment, Philips, Siemens, and Toshiba have better equipment for what I do. It would be great to keep heart sounds recorded in an EMR, but if there is no financial incentive for it I don't see it gaining popularity. The cardiologists in general are much more interested in echo, which provides more information and more reimbursement.  Serial phonocardiography would be a great screening tool though.

This stethoscope detected a diastolic murmur otherwise I could not time accurately within 2 cardiac cycle with the usual cardio stethoscope. I find no need to use the auscultogram yet. Needless to say, this 30 something year old young lady was found to have a markedly dilated aortic root at 5 cm, that the ultrasonographer was very concerned. the dilatation may explain the Aortic insufficiency.

A CT angiogram is in process to confirm and measure more acurately if her aoprtic root is aneurysmally dilated in which case it will involve a major vascular surgery. I hope and pray this will all end up positive and life saving.

My trial run of 2 weeks concluded and I purchased the model without reservation. I have mix feelings, announcing this at the expense of the patient. One wonders at times how one can be more objective and not be concerned of the effect these findings have on an individual we see, we call nowadays as "clients".
