Re: Al Borges' FREE EMR......May 2005

The MS Word EMR Project 2008 is now permanently up for download again here: http://www.emrupdate.com/forums/t/15588.aspxBeer

    I improved the following:

    • I simplified/improved the installation setup,
    • I got rid of the splashscreen text mentioning purchasing and activation, and
    • I got rid of a last minute bug with text deployment that I added when I improved the main template's interface.

I'm now currently working on the forum that will allow discussion and help with the integration of the software to your practice.

I'll soon be discussing with Nick the use of his company's DMS with the MS Word EMR Project 2008. Eventually I'll be moving the backend to an SQL backend. More on that later... Yes

Ok- website is up, thanks to the help of my son!

The MS Office EMR Project website, which will eventually include both MS Word EMR Project and the older MS Access EMR Project, can be found here- http://alborgmd.webs.com/index.htm. It's a basic website with a forum discussion section and download links.

    Cheers,

    Looks good.

aforumfree.com - never heard of them.  a few sites I frequent use phpbber.com - which now has new signups on the phpBB 3.0 system. i see aforumfree is 2.0.

Does your site design list the old access version too prominently ?

If you wan the user to demo the new one .. I'd at least list it first, ideally the old one should be on another page ?

Re: Al Borges' FREE EMR......May 2005

     >>> aforumfree.com

My son, Albert Jr showed me this free forum producing website which is very good, and FAST. It has several dozen prepackaged website templates. I had one up in about 30 minutes! Eventually I will port it all over to 1&1 Internet which for the price, is excellent but seemingly more complex.

Better yet is the site that he showed me- http://www.forumotion.com/ which creates interactive forums similar to what we have at emrupdate. All you need to do is to link it to your website. In this case, I would use the URL- http://msofficeemrforums.aforumfree.com/index.htm. If and when I decide to port it elsewhere, I don't have to restart the forums and lose all the signed up members.

As the software is upgraded, all I have to do is to change the file at the site where I keep things- http://www.box.net/files. It keeps the same URL link and the file download counter continues with the same numbers.

BTW, what is the phpBB 2.0/3.0? I'm new to this web stuff...

Can you clarify the license - free is a little ambiguous these days.  Free to copy? Free to distribute and resell? Free to use any content in the program?

What does the executable do - it has been a little worried - is it going to update my Word install - replace my normal.dot ?

    Screenshots would be nice.

Re: Al Borges' FREE EMR......May 2005

Good questions, and in fact, I haven't been clear in the manual, the read-me-now paper, or in the boilerplate EULA. Tonight I will make these changes.

    >>> Can you clarify the license - free is a little ambiguous these days.  Free to copy? Free to distribute and resell? Free to use any content in the program?

MS Word EMR Project 2008 can be used on multiple computers and will work well on a Windows Peer-To-Peer (PTP) setup well.   You are free to copy and use program content. You can distribute it in its current form (unchanged). You can not repackaged/resale the software.

Eventually I will be selling licenses as shareware so as to help defray the overhead costs.

    >>> What does the executable do - it has been a little worried - is it going to update my Word install - replace my normal.dot ?

The simple executable does not change your registry directly; it siimply adds the shortcuts to your start menu, to your desktop, and sets up a folder into your Windows Explorer "My Programs" section.. That's it- there are no registered components. If you uninstall the software, your system will be as it was before. Like always, these templates are self-contained and will not alter your normal.dot configuration.

There are a ton of screenshots in the manual and to get up and going rapidly, there is a short "read me now" paper that will allow you to make a report on Mr. George Bush, you trial patient! The new read-me-now paper can be found here: http://www.box.net/shared/static/c08j6bqkoc.doc  I'll update this paper tonight in the download to reflect these changes.

    OIE.

That "fancy paper" background is too 1990s for me.

    Cleaner UIs are in, IMO.

    Put it back !

EDIT - wow it is crazy how different it is on my monitors.

I tested it on 5 monitors.

Two .. it looked too dark .. and horrible.

    One looked OK.

Two it looked fine (when it looked lighter).

    Clean is in man.

I think fancy backgrounds were popular in 1996 when it showed you knew enough .html to change the background.gif !

I tried to post in your forums Al.

Sorry, but only administrators can post topics in this forum.

I think it is like that for all the forums.

    FYI  :)

Re: Al Borges' FREE EMR......May 2005

Ok- I fixed up the website, s.a. the lighter backgrounds. I've also updated a couple of documents (page 3) including:

    1. the "What is Wrong With HIT in the USA?" slideshow which has an updated timeline and now is 82 pages and
    2. the "CCHIT Hall of Fame" where 2 new additions are in the process of being added and eventually one (Cerner) may need to be taken off.

I'll be looking at the forum section tomorrow for sure!

    >>> Sorry, but only administrators can post topics in this forum.

You're right! I fixed it tonight to allow members to post. I'm also in the process of adding several new files for download too. I've recently updated the "What's Wrong With HIT in the USA" Powerpoint slideshow.

Took me several days to get to the forum issue as BOTH of my off-lease production laptops died on me at the same time. Each one represents a different platform, one with MS Office 2000, and the other with MS Office 2003. One recently got damaged on my recent trip to Italy, in which the cobblestone roads and the Venecian bridges (going up and down with luggages) really banged up the hard drive, which I had to replace. The motherboard also is having issues- sometimes it'll see the HD, other times it won't.

(old Dell Latitude C840, 15.4" screen)

I just bought a new Dell Inspiron Dual Core 1720 laptop, with a high definition 17" screen, video card (NVideo GForce 8600), 3GB ram, 9 cell lithium battery (can last up to 5-6 hours), built-in camera, MS Office 2007, and Windows Vista. What I plan to do is to use one for MS Office 2003 and the other for MS Office 2007 in my future development efforts. I also have MS Office 2000 on a desktop computer and MS Office 2002 on my old TC1000 off-lease tablet laptop which still works.

(new Dell Inspiron 1720 with 17" screen)

    Cheers,

    AL
