This explanation is offered by Robert Gleeman, Moderator. I have changed the title of this thread. It was NOT a warning about MedInformatix. It did not say anything bad about MedInformatix at all. 

I looked at their web site (www.acermed.com) last week (and re-checked it when I saw this post). It makes the situation pretty clear.

I was unable to see any post on the link you provided, Robert.  As a matter of clarification, AcerMed was a reseller of MedInformatix and that relationship was terminated.  There is a lawsuit against Acermed and word on the street (an ex-employee of AcerMed spoke to me at length about the allegations) is that Acermed has source code to the MedInformatix product and is selling a derivative of this under their name (I believe that is one of the contentions of the lawsuit).  If this is proven to be true, then AcerMed will indeed be the next DrNotes.  Now for the really interesting news.  Mark Anderson reviewed both products and AcerMed scored substantially higher than MedInformatix.  Similar product, but the alleged derivative is rated much higher.  I'm just glad he verifies what the vendors attest to in his survey.  Otherwise, vendors that out and out lie might just get highly rated..... Hmm, I wonder if that has happened before?

The facts of this lawsuit are still in dispute.  My opinions are based on hearsay and remain just opinions until all the facts are known.

I just went to the AcerMed link below and read Anderson's survey results.  This just makes me sick.  IMO, Anderson should be tarred and feathered for peddling this crap on doctors.  How many docs have been scammed and overpaid for his highly rated picks?  How can he look himself in the mirror?   Since Mr. Anderson routinely threatens to sue me every time I post here, I must add the disclaimer that the above are opinon only.

I have an idea.  What if we host a demonstration of our next generation product against, say NextGen and eCW's next generation product.  Each company ponies up $100,000 and we do a demo shoot out to a large audience of physicians.  The doctors vote for the best EMR and the winning company gets bragging rights and decides which charity will receive the $300,000.  But e-MDs is rated so much lower in ACGroup's survey than eCW and NextGen.... We are at such a disadvantage, I just don't know why we would ever consider doing this.  Can the underdog beat Anderson's 5 star rated EMRs...? Is it conceivable that a room full of clinicians might have better insight into what makes a truely great EMR?

Now for the challenges.  How do we keep the room from being packed with cronies of Anderson or one of the companies?  Girish is a master at demoing his product.  We have no one that comes close to his charisma and deft use of the mouse (and hypnotic trance). As an aside, I was recently asked by a prospect if we had any one in our company that could match Girish's panache in a demo.  We do not.  He is a master.  With Girish at the helm of eCW's demo, we have no chance.... and yet, I am willing to throw down the gauntlet in challenge.  Any takers?

I think the failures by Medinformatix with its vars stuck in the middle may have led to the actual creation of Acermed.  Obviously as with any company Acermed when there back was against the wall would simply make there own product if they had the ability and get rid of the primary company (Medinformatix).  Specially if the customers were marketed and sold by Acermed and were happy with same.

I think that bashing Acermed without knowing the history of why they went out on there own might be a bit unfair.  I think we should get all the facts.  Lets for argument sake (I know this gets me in trouble here all the time) that Acermed took a look at what was in Medinformtix and then rewrote the software in a different platform with improvements based on the overall needs of its customers.  Then after two years, guess what, the two products would evolve into two completely different products with different feature functions.

My point is I don't get where or why Acermed could not have gone on there own.  Obviously Medinformatix has a no compete and intellectual rights clause, but that is for the courts to determine.  If the consumer benefits and likes Acermed that is what is important.  The outcome of a lawsuit would also be important if it actually gets to that point.

We agree that it falls flat if they stoled Source Code.  If they did, then they will either be fined or will have to stop using the code.  We shall see if they stoled ideas or actual code. 

In any case, I doubt any of us know the answer to this.  I hope for the good of the customers for both Medinformatix and Acermed that this goes in there favor.

I hate seeing any vendor suffer if it means a bad mark on the industry at large.

Your very UNEDUCATED opinion about AcerMed is not expected even from a competitor.  We already have two law suits pending against two other companies inlcuding MedInformatix that rendered such unfounded and deceiving opinions.  While I undestand your pain, as AcerMed's proprietary EMR software is taking over your market share and costing you sales, but to save yourself (personally, as the allegations are your personal opinion) and save your company from being entangled in a multi-million dollar law suit, I would stay away from rendering ANY such opinions.  AcerMed has spent over five years and millions of dollars in developing a leading edge product from the ground up.  When and where did you see our product?  When and where did you see MedInformatix's product?  Of what authority are you to render any opinion regarding this matter?  Of what value, do you think, your opinion about two other products that you don't even know is?  Trying to bash a leading comptitor with what you label as "word on the street" is even lower than your own reputation in the industry. We have seen you in the EHRVA meetings upclose and we are very familiar with the "word on the street" about you.  We highly recommend that you focus on expanding your business by improving your offering to the market (as we did, with honesty and hard work) rather than spending hours on these forums making misleading and untrue postings and exploring the dangerous territory of litigation over your very UNEDUCATED opinion!

Q: Does anyone know if MedInformatix user data was migrated perfectly/"seemlessly" to AcerMed ?  If so, that would point to a similar source code.
