Life Record has announced the release of Life Record EMR v3.1.0, a new version of the company’s Electronic Medical Records system for Mac OS X. This release adds support for the Apple iPhone.

Well the iphone runs the WWW browser safari. So any EMR that works via a browser will work on the iphone.

What other EMRs are coming out with Iphone compatibility? Any EMRs have a client for the Iphone that connects to the doctors database in their office or in a cloud over the 3G network?

Synapse has a web portal accessible by iPhone.
So, any EMR that has a web interface should be compatible with the iPhone's browser unless it is old and uses IE specific coding.

Yes, eCW has an iPhone app too. Lets you check messages, schedule, patient record, labs, write prescriptions, etc.

How much is ECW charging for their IPhone app? EMDs is charging $250 to "install" it even though the phone does the installation for you and then they are charging $35 a month per device for "support". I guess they are trying to lose all of their long term customers to other EMRs that are free like Practice Fusion. I find these charges to be outrageous.

I wonder why they don't simply leave the purchase to Apple iTunes? Ah, I know why! If they were using Apple's pricing tiers, this would be Tier 75 (in the pricing matrix) $250.00 to their customer, with eMDs proceeds of $175.00; Apple bagging a $75.00 $74.99 commission for every sale. I don't know how much their development costs were, but guess this is one way of getting reimbursed - nothing per se wrong with that, but the way they're describing things must be upsetting the customer base.

I am not sure how eMDs does it, but eCW has a separate web server that holds the patient data. When you access the app, you aren't communicating with your own servers, but a server located at eClinicalWorks. That way all the security issues are properly handled for you.
The actual app for eCW right now isn't an applet, but rather the web browser. They have customized the web page for use on small devices, so it could be used by iPhone, Blackberry, Droid, etc. For all intents and purposes it behaves just like an iPhone app. Rather than going to iTunes, you are given your practice's custom URL to save as a favorite. One side benefit is that you can access the same material from a PC at the ER or hospital if you know the web page URL and your credentials.
I am not sure of the current pricing. eCW had a promotion with free installation, and it seems to me that they were giving the service away to existing customers as part of their usual license fee. Ditto with the patient portal, they have a free version of that too.
