    Wow. Big News.

Things have looked poor for Acermed, Medinformatix here for a LONG time.

I completely disagree that things have looked bad for Medinformatix. The overwhelming majority of Medinformatix clients are enjoying the software and are getting terrific benefits from it. If any one has any questions about that, we are happy to provide a list they can call or a local site they can visit so you can see for yourself why Medinformatix clients are not spending their time browsing this forum.

Dr. Murdoch, I respect your contribution to this forum but it seems to me the obvious question to ask is how Mark Anderson came about ranking Acermed #1. What due diligence did he actually do?

We have not been able to contact Acermed since yesterday.  I however do not find any independent news anywhere on the web regarding their closure.

Dr. Murdoch, I respect your contribution to this forum but it seems to me the obvious question to ask is how Mark Anderson came about ranking Acermed #1. What due diligence did he actually do?

I posted on this a while back, warning doctors that AcerMed smelled bad and to watch out.  I was soundly attacked and beaten and had to retract a few comments to avoid being impaled by their lawyers.

They failed the smell test on two counts.  One, they displayed unethical behavior by copying another product (Medinformatix) for which they had been a VAR(someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they were a reseller).  Anyway, if that wasn't bad enough, I pointed out that Mr. Anderson rated AcerMed #1 and threw Medinformatix in the dumpster (along with e-MDs) .  So, how do two very similar products get rated on the opposite ends of the spectrum by the great futurist Mark Anderson?  Does anyone get the feeling that Mark was either derelict in his due diligence... or perhaps something more sinister was afoot?... is it just me that finds this disturbing?

I was told that AcerMed had access to Medinformatix source code for purposes of "adding value".   If AcerMed copied that source code into their product and somehow also came in first in Mr. Anderson's survey - while a very similar (identical?) product came in last.... something smells very bad.

AcerMed is apparently gone, but not forgotten - at least not by the doctors that are stuck with a dead product.  As is our history, e-MDs will extend a hand of friendship and offer exAcerMed physicians credit on their purchase towards an e-MDs software license.  I wonder if other consultants would provide credit to customers of Mark Anderson?

Winn: Thanks for sticking your neck out a *LONG* time ago and providing some words of wisdom regarding AcerMed.  If even one physician's office was spared the wasted time and energy in deploying a defunct EMR it was entirely worth the effort.

    Re: Acermed closed their doors

If anyone is curious about the original thread, here it is http://www.emrupdate.com/forums/p/5379/61957.aspx#61957

The original post starting the thread was probably deleted because of legal threats.  I was obliged to remove certain comments that I had made due to a threat of legal action.  Anyway, it was comforting to know that many of my competitors in EHRVA have such a low opinion of me for sharing the dirty little secrets of the industry.  I apparently am also scorned by certain members of CCHIT and HL7 (these things eventually filter there way back to me from sources that like what I say) for revealing the things they don't want doctors to know.

If its any consolation, Dr. Jon Bertman is also viewed with some disdain.  Welcome to the club Jon!

    Good evening all,

I tried all phone numbers listed on the contact us page - about 10 am PST - on Friday and got nothing but voice mail. Maybe the whole company was in Hawaii for the past week.

BTW: Does anybody have any clue if they are still in alternate dispute resolution with Medinformatix. If they finished, does anybody know what the result was?

    Thanks,

    Dan

    Re: Acermed closed their doors

Hi everyone -  I am the office manager of a three doctor office who signed on with Acermed in September of last year.  We were called by someone not with Acermed, but who is in the EMR field, on Weds. morning and told that they had shut their doors. We were able to confirm it later by contacting a company that works with both us and them, as well as with an employee of Acermed.  We STILL have not been contacted by anyone offical at Acermed telling us however.  Apparently (and I will say this is allegedly - but on good authority)  not only did they leave us customers high and dry, they did not pay their employees their last paycheck due on the 15th and failed to mention to the employees that they were closing until 5:00 the night before.

We thought we did our due diligence when we signed the contract with them, we knew about the lawsuit with Medinformatix and resolution (we thought) in arbitration.  We were impressed with the system that we were shown on multiple demos and continue to think that in theory it is one of the best systems around.  However, implentation of pieces of the system were lacking, frustratingly so.  We have been completly frustrated by their customer service and their lack of ability to get things done and we were very unhappy with the way our concerns were addressed.

We are luckier than some though, our system does work (albeit without any further support I don't how long that will be the case), but there are a number of offices who recently signed contracts, paid their upfront money and who will lose that money with nothing to show for it.  There are also offices still in the implementation phase who have had no training and only a partially activitated system.

At this point we are waiting to see what happens in the near future, if anyone will swoop in and attempt to pick up the pieces of what could potentially be a very good system if handled correctly.

I agree! Chris this does sound like a forum post effort from Rob Gleeman to do some digging, try some contacts, and see if there's anymore news about Acermed. Robert -- how about some of your investigative reporting or at least some insight into what now faces those Acermed customers.

I should expect they have a few questions:

    1. Which existing (established) EMR vendors could offer the port of data from Acermed to their own EMR solution?
    2. Assuming a number of Acermed customers are in the same "unsupported" position, are there any EMR vendors likely to offer unpublished but large discounts to help these customers migrate. Seriously EMR Vendors -- this is a low-sales effort -- potentially for a number of Doctors who need a new system sometime in the next 12-months.
    3. Are there any Acermed customers happy (under agreement) to discuss their database format and how this data could be extracted.
    4. Again. Another reason for the portablility of data between different EMRs. Another EMR vendor will close shop in 6-months, 12-months, the future.

and I didn't even mention the winner at Carnoustie.
