Is there a specific coding system used for vaccines?

Or does one just use their names?

Vaccines have Drug Identification Numbers (DINs) in Canada.

I would believe they would be treated very similar to drugs.

I'm looking for the eqivalent to the LOINC code, or SNOMED-CT code ...

Found it ... the CDC maintains the codes.

Many registries will take a CVX code but some of them will only take a cpt code. It varies from state to state and in some states city to city.

I agree; at least in the USA, the CPT code is the norm almost everywhere.

Except there are a number of vaccines which do not have CPT codes.

Well probably the key ones do.

Does it pass the 90/10 rule ?

Most of the key ones are covered.  You will find that there are immunizations with no CPT code assigned but also immunizations with no CVX code but they do have a cpt code.  Here is the mapping

http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/programs/iis/stds/cpt.htm

We are in great need of a centralized registry and vocabulary in the US.
