For emrupdate.com, I am attending HiMSS09 in Chicago, IL Sunday April 4 through Wednesday April 8, 2009.
This will be our second year attending the HiMSS Conference with a chance to catch up with old friends, posters we've never met and readers who just want to say hello.
We will be reporting from the HiMSS09 Keynotes including Monday April 6 with George C. Halvorson of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. and Wednesday April 8 with Alan Greenspan the distinguished economist and Former Chairman Federal Reserve.
We also want to engage with EMR vendors at Conference, discussing new product announcements, new customer implementations or partner initiatives. If you are attending HiMSS09 as a Vendor and would like to schedule an interview you can contact me by email nick@emrupdate.com and at show by telephone/SMS at # (941) 306-1957.
We'll be publishing 'live' interviews throughout the week with Robert Gleeman adding some much needed finesse & corrections to our content as it happens.
If you're a Doctor visiting the show I would welcome the chance to get your views about us and of the Conference. With luck our HiMSS09 marketing budget may stretch to a coffee, beer or cocktail subject to how many emrupdate readers track me down. If we can find a quorum of 'emrupdaters' I'll buy lunch or dinner! You will find me either wandering between Exhibition stands or recharging cells from an adopted side-table in the Hall. I'll be the chap with the English accent recording with a Nokia N95 telephone.
If you cannot attend show -- you prefer warmer weather, or are way too busy -- you can always post a subject you would like discussed or email me with some private ideas and thoughts.
Hope to see you at the show!

Great stuff, Nick, Robert!
I wish I could go- but I have to keep the office open.

going to try to make it. On call that weekend but only 60 miles away.
cheers!
Looking forward to your reporting Nick. I'd hoped to make it, but another year passes and I probably won't be there. I even tweeted to see if someone would sponsor my trip in return for advertising on my blog. Maybe I'll make a blog post about it and see if someone will cough up some cash for me to attend in return for a "Sponsored by EMR COMPANY" at the bottom of each of my blog posts from the show.

I think you would be excellent value for money Techguy. You would bring an excellent knowledge of HIPAA to whichever booth could sponsor your trip. Get blogging - see if Bob can spot your plea for his daily news.

Meeting emrupdate.com visitors
My offer to sponsor an early evening rendezvous* still stands. Please drop me your contact details or cellphone # if you can make it to the show and fancy a meeting. I can be reached at (941) 306-1957 or nick@emrupdate.com.
I'll find some way to advertise an event location & time as we head into the show.

EMR Vendor Meetings
I'm getting booked out with meetings through Monday and Tuesday (April 6 and 7) with some limited time on Wednesday before departure. If you're an EMR vendor attending show, please drop me a note if you would like to give me an update on what's new at show for your organization.
Accommodation
The W Chicago Hotel on the Michigan lakeshore was recommended by a fellow conference regular, so that’s where you’ll find me stressing their WiFi connection.
Not that we ever get chance for these diversions, but these are nearby:
Should I take by bucket, spade & swim wear for the beach?

Any “road-warriors” have any suggestions? Pay-as-you-Go?
I'm planning to upload media content to this site while at HiMSS 09 conference in Chicago.
A combination of (my UK) gsm-Roaming charges and extortionate per MB data charges could see my cellphone bill top $2,000.00. Quite serious, no BS - I've escaped a prior $1k bill on a technicality (an incorrect p/m billing rate).
I'm running a tri-band Nokia N95 which takes the standard SIM card. This provides both email/internet/YouTube upload direct from phone and data-connection for my HP Mini 2140.
Yes, that’s my latest extravagance! A baby HP mini! Eat your heart out Al Borges!
Can anyone recommend a pay-as-you GSM SIM provider that I can buy/collect at Chicago O'Hare or pre-order for UK delivery? As a UK-national I cannot provide a US ZIP code which does stop my purchase of some goods. Probably US Patriot act related I guess.
Are there any Telecoms providers at Chicago International arrivals that might offer this service?
Any ideas? Got a spare SIM card and a heap of trust that I'll pay you back?

Those nice people at Star Micronics asked me to drop by at HiMSS 09 Chicago, to see their latest thermal prescription printer. Of course, its boasting some speed and flexible paper credentials:
Locking Paper Chamber Disable Paper Feed Function Kensington Lock Slot Ultra High Speed: 50LPS (150mm/sec.) Wide paper format: 4.4” and 2 color printing
I guess I’m going to have to include a “hardware-zone” in our HiMSS 09 coverage from Chicago. I’ve always fancied gadgets so this is clearly no hardship. I’m hoping Al Borges tunes in daily to our Hardware Zone!

Nick- ask the thermal printer guys if they offer paper that is compliant with the new Medicaid regs that require prescriptions to be hard to alter. That would be a big selling point for them...

A baby HP mini? We have to have a camera-to-camera duel!!! BTW, I'm thinking of turning my Acer Aspire One into a TOUCHSCREEN!!! Check out this video- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hdNB4cCXUk
The only problem that I have is that I've had to make the type really small to fit everything into the 9" diagonal screen... but it's light weight is fantastic! I can dictate to it too... The other upgrade that I may need to do to improve the dictation speed is to upgrade the RAM memory, but in the Acer Aspire THAT's a chore! Check out- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1MBuizr_s4
Cheers,

I think Verizom has a pay as you go option - alternatively you can get a no contract card, I think for $300.

Thanks Mike -- That helpful Sarasota-based pulmonologist Dr. Kirk Voelker sprung into action, getting me a T-mobile PAYG gsm SIM chip. Can't activate until I'm in town (Int. roaming also disabled) but hope to reduce my roaming charges some.

There were some big stands last year with a surplus of staff. Maybe tighter marketing budgets will make a difference this year. I'll be sure to give you all a panoramic sweep of the show so you can get a feel for the show crowds. Of course, I shall be drawn to all the stands with nice attractive ladies* offering freebies.
* have to practice my video techniques!
Nick,
If you post the videos to YouTube and make them a playlist, I'll post them on my blog for all to enjoy. Along with a nice promotion of EMRUpdate.
