I would like to announce the release of FasterCharts and our website, http://fastercharts.com .
I have been working on the application for quite a while and I am pretty excited to finally see how it is received.
In a nutshell, FasterCharts is a medical charting application that just does charting. It seems all the companies and their products are doing more and more, which is great for some, but what about the doc that only wants a program to help him chart? We think we can help!
We don't do billing and coding. We don't have a prescription writing module. We don't email patients, schedule appointments or any other fancy stuff. We just make great notes for cheap!
FasterCharts was designed so it can operate from a thumb drive, memory card, or portable hard drive that is connected to a PC. Obviously, you can install it on the PC but what fun is that? We think you should take it with you wherever you go!
We really feel that FasterCharts is a great alternative to expensive transcription and dictation services. For under $200, you can churn out all the perfectly formatted, typed notes that you want. No more 10cents/line charges from the transcriptionist!
We really think you are going to like our application. Here are some of the features that FasterCharts offers:
Use your own default words and phrases for charting by exceptionPassword protected access Adjustable, timed, lock out Spell CheckerCreate new notes from previous notes for faster chartingTemplate feature that you design the way you want itDigital signature, date and time stamp optionsExport to .PDF, clip board, raw text, view as text, print preview Create new notes using the previous patient encounter as a template Access to the main database so you can change the default wording Formatting options Instructional videos on the website Multiple chart sorting options Text entry areas that are voice recognition compatible
Please visit us on at http://fastercharts.com and download a free trial version, look at the videos and screen shots, and read more about our great new product.

I frequently run my MS Access EMR from a thumb drive using the MS Office program installed in just about every computer in the hospitals that I go to. Nothing new here.

Your application looks pretty cool too! Just went to your website. I started my little application (now http://FasterCharts.com ) as a MS Word VBA project and it just grew from there. I am a huge fan of MS Office stuff. MS Office is probably one of the most powerful all around programs on the market. I will have to get an older version of Word and check it out.
http://fastercharts.com is a beautiful website, and the product is very reasonably priced! I want all our readers to have a look at, so I have made this thread sticky--at the top of the forum--to help introduce this brand new EMR . Eric, keep plugging away even if this can seem like a tough place for vendors at times. And welcome to EMR Update!

Thanks Robert! I've had a lot of fun working on it. I hope people will use it and enjoy it.

Hi Eric,
Nice simple and direct EMR. I reviewed the demo. Lot s of check boxes that make for a friendly TabletPC experience. Looks like it would lend itself well to dictation and perhaps even hand writing. Missing the ability to mark up a picture on a tablet, perhaps that is in offing?

Thank you for your words of encouragement. I have been wanting to see if it would work on a TabletPC. I hope to someday add a picture mark up as well but I need to sell a few (okay, maybe a few hundred!) to recoup some of my initial investment. I have tested it with DNS 9.0 Medical Professional and it took dictation into the test boxes just fine as long as the spell checking feature is disable in FasterCharts before dictating. I added a little disable check box on each text box to make dictation more friendly. Let me know how it works on your Tablet PC if you try it.

Heck, Robert should know- he was once one of them nasty vendor types! Look at how this forum has changed Robert over the years:

Eric- I'll take a look at your site. We really like Word EMRs around here! Take a look also at the Ten Second Medical Record (by Gil Carter). He's the one that got me on a thumb drive!
I can't get you free download to work yet. Maybe that is because you inundated with downloads.
I'd like to see how your installation works given the database of which I am not familiar.
Anyway, I like your enthusiasm http://www.medicaltabletpc.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=666&Itemid=29
Are you making it all the way to the download link after going through the registration process? Make sure and complete all the info boxes in the registration process. I just downloaded the trial version and it seems to be working?
Eric, why do you care to gain the information required (name, email address, etc.) before allowing one to download the demo? From a marketing standpoint, it would seem that you would simply allow a download to pique interest in your product. When I am asked to fill out such fields to gain access to a demo, I simply move on.

Unfortunately FasterCharts isn't that fast.
Besides limitations like (1) it's not networked (at least the demo isn't) and (2) you can't generate a prescription ... this very focused program leaves you with what it promises .. a method to generate a note. That's it.
When compared to an app such as TSMR, this application is slower and missing major needed features to work efficiently in real practice.
A specialist whom is solo, may benefit ... but I would suggest there are many alternatives that are faster and more comprehensive.
Time is money, so this app isn't free at all.
If someone wants a full functioning EMR with prescription writing, and other practice management stuff, then FasterCharts is not their program. I'm not really that concernced though about anything other than making a note with this application.
It doesn't require an install. It's affordable. It doesn't require MS Office. You don't need to purchase a $500 voice recognition program. It's much faster than typing. The notes format out nicely and look like they were typed. It's customizable. It has a very small footprint. It doen't require an internet connection and many other positive things.
Someone once told me to put your efforts into things that you were passionate about and you will do well. That's what I am trying to do with FasterCharts. I'm not interested in making a practice management application. There are already lots of great ones out there. What I wanted to see if I could do was create a true, stand alone application that could run on a PC from a thumb drive (if desired). I also wanted it to be cheap enough that people like med students, interns and residents could afford it.
Making macros with DNS is fast. I love DNS. Problem is, DNS costs a lot of money. Not only that, but you need a good microphone, a nice computer, and permission to install the software on a computer unless you want to buy a laptop and carry it around with you. A good laptop is about a grand. So, the cost is getting up there!
No doubt there is software out there that is cheaper. I know there are applications that are more comprehensive. I think for what you get with FasterCharts though it is a great bargain. Consider it another "tool" to throw in the bag. No everyone need the tools that others need. Some people will love it. Some will hate it. Oh well! That's cool!
As for the required fields in order to download the trial: I might change that. I am waiting to see if it is a really big deal to a lot of people. I would like to be able to email the people that have downloaded the trial to see what they think. Like I said, I might change it.
Thanks for the input Robert. I do the same thing when asked to give personal inforamtion, but look, I'm doing it to other people now!! What have I become? I'll probably change it after the holiday weekend. Rather get some sun at the beach this weekend than reconfigure the website! Happy 4th of July everyone!
