Anyone using these? I have used Lytec in the past happily but am wondering about Medisoft.

It is not advised there are so many problems with the current version and McKesson doesn't seen to care.

Ease of use- future functionality- customer satisfaction fall way behind the corporate culture at this company.

Don’t buy the one you want- buy the one that McKesson is not going terminate as a product line.  I give 5 to 1 odds that one of these programs is killed off in the next 36 months.

Spend the money to look at the KLAS reports for any McKesson product in the Ambulatory market and compare to other companies.  Dismal scores.

Medisoft and Lytec do a good job of getting claims out the door.  However, the products break down after that point.  Extremely weak in analytical reporting, especially if more than 1 provider.  The upgrade process is not seamless at all.  The main appeal is price.  Now that McKesson has taken over, the products are relatively dead.  McKesson has never been successful in the ambulatory space (PPM, POM).  It will be interesting to see if they are able to leverage their hospital base and do something with Practice Partner.

Medisoft added about 100 reports to their product last release. Several of the new reports have breakdowns by provider. It has a deposit list that makes it easy to drill down and see how money from a particular EOB was applied. I have the abilitiy to create about any Medisoft report that you need. McKesson has rolled out clinical versions of both Medisoft and Lytec, called Medisoft Clinical and Lytec MD. These are Medisoft and Lytec bundled with Practic Partner. It could be a cost effective way to get Practice Partner if you are thinking about going that route.

Dr. K;

I used to represent both for over 6 years. They're both good systems in their own way; meaning, I noticed a trend where users who loved Medisoft disliked Lytec. On the contrary, those who were happy with Lytec tend to dislike Medisoft.

I believe that they're both tailored to opposite ends of the market. Each has its strong & weak points, but users who like hard data, statistics, heavier reporting, etc. will like Lytec & users who like more visually appealing and simple / focused screens will enjoy Medisoft.

The good thing about both systems is that you can download free 30-day trials of each.

Although I'm not a Medisoft / Lytec Reseller anymore, I can tell you that they're cost effective & economical applications.

Hi Dr. K,

Medisoft Vs. Lytec.

Medisoft is a case base while Lytec is not.  price difference (Lytec is 20%-35%  more than Medisoft) for the following reasons:

Medisoft uses Advantage SQL database Lytec uses Microsoft SQL database.

Lytec is stronger on the following areas:

Fees schedule, family billing, pre payment, group CPT billing (Multi Link) and comes built with following (no additional cost):

Professional Scheduler, Codes, Encoder Pro (Lytec Pro and higher), Scanning software, Electronic ERA posting.

Medisoft is used by 70,000 doctors Lytec is used by 32,000 doctors (Medisoft and Lytec are top software for 1-5 doctor's office) both programs are owned by the same company Mckesson  public held company MCK.

It depends on your needs, both programs are great and will do the job,  you just need training by the right expert.

i would love to help you with your training, support or software needs.

It would be interesting to know what the "churn" rate and retention rate are for Medisoft/Lytec users.  I sincerely doubt there are 100,000 physicians using  both of these products, but I could be wrong.  Now if that statistic is number of providers who have purchased these products in the past, that number may be accurate.  I just don't believe 100,000 physicians are using those products today.  I don't think KLAS is the end all for documentation, but I'd encourage physicians to get a KLAS comparison of PM vendors and use that as one piece of your due diligence.  There is a lot of red (below average) responses for both Lytec and Medisoft.

From my experience been the largest Medisoft and Lytec Value Added Reseller in the nation www.microwize.com , I find the unhappy physicians are the ones that bought based on price and don't want to hire a pro to to do the training or installation, "do it yourself" kind of purchase. While Medisoft and Lytec are easy to use, you will need the proper training, implementation and installation from an experience company.

I needed to reinstall Medisoft v15 on our Vista 32 Bit computer, but when the Medisoft application is loading, it hangs and does not start up. I've tried uninstalling, deleting all folders and reinstalling and encounter the same problem. When I click on the X program to close the "hanging" program, I see this error message. Anyone know what's happening? Thanks!

You've probably done it, but when you get into the Vista, Windows 7, and Server 2008 level OS's,  you probably need to provide explicit permission to WRITE to the directory in which the database tables are located.  You may find if you right click over that directory, pick properties, pick security, that there is only read access.

I provide this in a general nature; it may not apply to your problem.

Well, if I were in your situation, two things specifically come to mind.

1) Addressed in the previous post. Make sure that all folders have full Read/Write access in Windows for 'Everone'. Microsoft went a bit overboard with Vista / Win7 security protocols.

I'd also add that I would right click on MAPA.exe (within the Program Files folder) & select to run it in Compatibility Mode + as an Administrator (for all users).

2) If it still persists, reply with the specs on your machine. How much RAM, processor speed & name (i.e. Intel Centrino, etc.) and whatever else you can summarize about your technical backbone.

Good Luck.
