Murdoch, sometimes you are so full of bullshit, and your arguments are nonsense,
In any event, I had a patient die from H1N1 two weeks ago.
Another was on a ventilator for over a week and almost died, and was in the hospital about 6 weeks.
This was not hype, and I find your post offensive.

DrMurdoch: Even at the peak of the infection more people in the US died per week from the lack of Health Insurance than the Swine Flu. Approximately 1,000 Americans die per week due to the lack of Health Insurance.

Can this be diagnosed at autopsy? Since hospitals apparently kill 40,000/year, we are almost breaking even.
Uhhh ... people die of the flu.
I'm not sure that is news.
It's terrible when anyone dies of the flu.
My grandmother survived the Spanish flu at 6 months of age, her father and 2 brothers did not.
She lived until 85 and died of Influenza A, despite getting the flu shot.
Currently Ontario has virtually no H1N1.
This is the mildest flu season in Ontario I've seen in a number of years.
My EMR is: Synapse It is what we know already that often prevents us from learning. Pioneers are the ones with the arrows in their backs.

No ... use this screening tool I have developed.
Q: Do you have Health Insurance (Y/N) ?
But that only works on a living person. How are we to know if someone without health insurance died BECAUSE of that.
reddybiggs: DrMurdoch: reddybiggs: this could get out of control quickly. It could. But it's not likely. Sep 30 2009 10:06 AM The Centers for Disease Control has a different opinion than you. At their Web conference last week I would say they are very concerned.

Looks like the the CDC was wrong.
H1N1 appears to have claimed the lives of 428 Canadians, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada. In any other year, between 750 and 2500 Canadians die of the flu in a year. The numbers are similar in the US (where about 3,212 have died this year rather than the usual 36,000 annual flu-related deaths).
