There is definitely something fishy about Osler?

The posts are way too long for a normal regular poster, in some posts he or she claims to be an EMR user for 15 years, others he is calling anyone who uses an EMR dumb or naive. He trashes anyone attempting to use voice.

But obviously it is someone with some knowledge of the healthcare but not necessarily medicine. There are no Bio details - identify yourself Osler and add credibility to your posts.

The posting pattern seems to suggest Osler that maybe you are not a doctor but possibly a patient that may be bi-polar?  Give us bio details to give credibility to your posts.

I'm going to add a bit here,

Once we had an scheduling clerk at my wife's office who may have had some problems! Anyway she used to pretend on the Internet she was a doctor. She knew all the lingo and could even take real events and spin it like she was the one in charge. She wove her own life into a fantasy that included the medical practice.

Bottom line she fooled a lot of people.

Osler obviously has a lot of knowledge OF a medical office but I see little in the posts to suggest personal experience of the 15 years claimed in the clinical USE of an EMR.

You can be anyone as an anonymous Internet poster.

Enjoy the posts for what they probably are.

Osler is an excellent poster.

Regardless of how much medicine he practices or not, he knows plently about EMRs and Health.

Making internet diagnoses of Osler seems a bit far fetched, I thought you said don't mess with the pig he likes it.

DrMurdoch:

You are right but something is just a little off here. I re-read the Osler posts and while I do not find much evidence of actual clinical use of an EMR there is a great medical understanding and even obtuse references to medical publications.

The AMA only lists one Dr Osler (if that is a real name) an Internist who is probably about 70 yo??? As I am no spring chicken either I would not hold that against anyone but it does explain the depth of knowledge and also the general dislike for all technology together which also goes to point to a probable limited use of a current design EMR in a clinical situation.

It also explains the length, tone and timing of posts.

So I will cut him some slack, if you have been a physician for 50 years you deserve more than just modest respect.

The content of his posts are valid regardless of whether he is a doctor, a plummer or bipolar or a ghost. You can't dismiss the validity of the content by attempting to dismiss the man. Accurate observations are what they are regardless of who they come from.

Four points:

  1. I agree with Lowell- Osler's posts are excellent and very informative. I can see how a vendors can learn to dislike him, but his posts aren't meant as personal attacks on any one individual. (While some of the posts on this thread are somewhat demeaning.)
  2. Using the AMA to search for a physician is foolish- the AMA nowadays represents only about 17% of practicing physicians.
  3. This thread reminds me so much of the day I got cut from this site after I went ballistic. A similar thread was placed and was used as a personal attack and was meant to get me thrown off emrupdate. I hope that history doesn't repeat itself with another great poster...
  4. Osler will give out his personal information when he wants to. Take his threads for what they are- informative masterpieces about HIT.

No problem. Us old-timers all came out as born-again nice guys! But this thread does have that nasty odor of the "personal attack."

Madscribbler: You're just too funny. Unfortunately, not in a good way.

The childlike attempts to marginalize me are rather pathetic, by the way. Do you actually think that physicians don't see through you? Carry on...

Ahh just jesting, we may never know.

Sigh I think I got infected on this forum, I seem to be very snippish of late

dgloveremr:

No I am not French, but can speak some French as well as a bit of some others.Smile

Right now with a stable banking system, no real estate crisis and an economy that has had two months now of good job growth being Canadian is an asset, but anyway we are just like Americans, kind of like another California only colder, much colder - really I mean much, much colder.

My re-action to Osler is only to understand the personal attacks he started on me, I wanted to understand what makes him so bitter, as I did not know what I did to offend? I never started a personal attack on Osler and wondered why he did on me?

I am a good soldier I will shoot if shot at and have the courage to charge if threatened.

Much of what Osler says is negative and does not show anything of what he finds valuable in an EMR, even though he claims to have used one for 15 years.

Why Dr. Osler, did you use it for 15 years if as I see from your posts you find so many negatives?

Why Dr Osler, from experience, are you so angry with vendors? Why do say EMRs are worse than paper? What are the specific problems you have had.

I am just puzzled, not upset or vindictive or anything like that.
