Thanks to ducknet.web.blogspot for introducing me to The Vanishing Oath. This portrait of medical practice through the eyes of the physician could have been entertaining or interesting. Instead, it was mesmerizing, at least for this 20+ year practicing physician.The video was thoughtfully conceived and produced. Mostly, however, it was strikingly and painfully accurate.
I appreciate the effort of Crash Cart Productions, especially, Dr. Flesher and the other physicians who publicly shared their concerns, experiences and decisions -- for the public record. I also appreciated the interviews of men and women on the street, and the attorney, as well as those who declined to be interviewed - for the public record.
Many times I heard myself mutter, “exactly.” Many times I winced. I doubt that most physicians can watch The Vanishing Oath without doing the same. Now that that the warning bell has rung, I hope we can make sure it is heard. First, I plan to share this DVD with my colleagues, and then who knows.
