Adding Media to your Forum Post
Adding a picture to your post can help to highlight, embellish
your post or amuse your post readers. Communities are also
increasingly using or referencing YouTube or other types of video
media within forums posts.
Instead of simply providing a link to a video, you can provide a
far more relevant post discussion by embedding the video or image
directly within your post. For example, you could then add comment
to the contents of the video or an introduction to explain its
relevance to a topic.
To add images or movies into your forum post, you must be using
the Standard or Enhanced post
Content Editor. Click here to learn more about
changing your site preferences.
To insert Media into your forum post, click the Media icon
(looks like a filmstrip).
The post editor will display a three-tab dialogue for Local
media, from site, or from URL. Your profile or the Community might
not be configured to allow the upload of files from your computer.
Check with existing members to find our.
To insert media from your local computer, click
the Browse button on the From Computer tab. Locate
your file, and click the Insert button.
To insert media that is altready uploaded to site through to the
Media library, click the From Site tab.
Your Communiies Media library may appear different to
the one illustrated below. Files insert to your own media library
will be shown under your username (CarpeDiem in the example below).
Navigate through the media library by clicking the down arrow
symbold immediately left of a media branch. This expands that
level. Click on a media hyperlink to display files in that media
library. Hightlight the object that you would like to insert and
click the Insert button.
To insert media from another web-site, click the From URL tab,
and paste the URL of the media file. If this is a YouTube, Vimeo or
other video file you should use the URL to the page for that media
item. If you are pasting an image from another web-site, you need
to copy the URL shortcut to that image and paste this into the URL
location.
The example shown above is the URL for a YouTube movie pasted
into the Link to media box. You can insert media
from most video sites including YouTube, Vimeo.
