Creating a New Forum Post

Creating a new Foruim Post will display the following menu, if you are not located within a specific forum.

Forums are divided and subdivided into sections that group similar topics together.

When you create a post the forum software must understand where you want that new post created. If you not located within a specific forum, clicking the Write a New Post link will display a pop-up list of all the forums into which you can create a post. Click the forum that best matches the content that you wish to post.

If you are located within a specific forum, clicking the Write a New Post link will automatically display the create post page.

Don’t worry if you post into the wrong forum as a Moderator can move your post to a different forum if they feel it necessary. The forum descriptions should give you a reasonable idea of where to post your content.

Create your message

Upon the Compose tab, enter a Subject for your post, and start typing your post description underneath the ribbon toolbar.

Your toolbar may look different to the one shown opposite. You can change various site settings including your toolbar. See Profile Settings for more information.

The toolbar shown here contains:

  • Bold, Italic, Underline, Strikethrough
  • Bullets (like this list) and Numbered List (1,2,3,..)
  • Table tools
  • Make and remove Hyperlink URL
  • Insert Media
  • Insert Smiley

The toolbar displays a list of common text tools where you can change the characteristics of your writing for emphasis and separation.

Each of the icon within the toolbar contain hints which display when you rest your mouse-cursor over a specific tool.

Add some Post Options

You can attach an icon to your post to make it stand-out or to draw attention to its content. Click the options tab to display these Options tools.

These options include:

  • Add/Update – to add a file or image to your post
  • Add a post icon or smiley to you post

Users with special permissions can also “sticky” a post forcing the post to remain top of the forum for a few days.

The other tab options are:

Video – never used it. For more information about adding media, see here.

Preview – this will show you what your post (so far) will look like when published.

Click the Post button at the bottom of the Post a Message window to publish your comment to the forum.

Whoops!

We all make typos or grammatical mistakes and only notice these once we’ve hit print or post. If you want to correct a mistake in your post, you can click the More button, and then the edit button from the pop-up menu. Click the Post button when you’ve corrected your post. However tempting – you cannot edit someone else's post.
