Wow, huge bills and she was able to borrow 45k but then at admitting time, the hospital wanted another 65k. This was at the MD Anderson Center in Texas. She states that she could pay for her chemotherapy if she washes out here entire retirement funds, tough decision and so now she keeps fighting...
The costs of cancer treatment and associated drugs is rising as we all know. We are pouring money into R and D as fast as we can, and yes that does cost money, but insurers are making it hard to get insurance coverage and somewhere along the line you need to have a drug that is affordable as well...
As the article states, you don’t need marketing for cancer drugs, as the need is unfortunately already there, thus marketing for cancer drugs does not necessarily carry the same sales expense as do other drugs. We have all seen the “tiered plans” on what level drugs are listed with insurance coverage...

Stories like this are sad indeed. It comes back to the dollar and someone playing "God" to determine who gets treatment and who does not. Granted personalized medicine tests will help in time, not only from the actual treatment side, but from the information side of things as well...
